Update

They took some really bizarre pictures... but our scanner isn't working, so I can't show you. They scoped Sam's esophagus through to his belly. They found some lesions, a tumor, and some fungus. The fungus was easily explained by the doctor as being a result of using steroid inhalers for asthma. Except he doesn't use steroid inhalers or have asthma, so the dr didn't have a reason for why his esophagus had fungus, and was confused. Maybe he needs to eat more yogurt... or less... They biopsied the lesions and the tumor and some idiot intern (at least I think he was an intern... he definitely needed to work on bedside manner) kept looking at the pictures and throwing the cancer word around... until he looked at the chart again and realized that the person he was discussing was 31, not 60. Then he said due to the age factor he can definitely rule out cancer... whatever... now it is in the back of my mind. Anyway, we will get the results of the biopsies and hopefully a diagnosis and treatment plan in 2 weeks. I am especially interesting in the fungus. Until that point, he has to stay away from extremely cold and hot foods... ice cream, smoothies, hot cocoa...
Now Sam is drifting in and out of consciousness, but has no pain. He is on a liquid only diet (that can not be extreme in temperature) until tomorrow. You will get another update in 2 weeks. At least all his organs and extremities are still in the right places.

Keep Your Fingers Crossed

Sam is getting scoped tomorrow to try to determine the extent of his reflux problems. They have to put him completely under, and he won't let me write directions on his face in sharpie, so keep your fingers crossed that this doesn't happen. We will keep you posted.

Our best accidental purchase

Agnes took these from the shelf at the store along with a notebook and started coloring before I noticed. So I felt it was only right to buy them. How hilarious is this set of crayons! To my disappointment the crayons still had normal names like burnt sienna and apricot. I was hoping for Cheyenne Indian or Puerto Rican. What a bummer.

Bad timing

The day we decided to sleep in late and not check early for the Skybus email is the day they sent it out. Sorry. The fares through Sept 3 are all gone already. Sorry. But if any of you want to spend a lot of money on regular airline fares, we'd still really love to see you this summer. Let's cross our fingers we can get a flight in September before Nick goes back to school and that we can at least still come out then.

They're having another girl. She's due in August. They'll name her Kaydence Brinley (don't quote me on the middle name, but I think that is correct), and call her Kaydee.

Am I that obscure?

I was at a Stake meeting Thursday night and we were discussing the music at an upcoming Priest/Laurel activity. I mentioned that I had just put some Ravi Shankar on my iPod. Everyone looked at me with the look of: "WHO??" I said, "Ravi Shankar? Sitar player? From the '60s? He played with the Beatles..." Crickets. Lots of Crickets. I knew that I had strange interests and tastes, but I didn't think that I was that outside the mainstream. I may have surrendered my young/hip card a while back, but I still have my obscure musical taste card in the wallet!

A Success

Thank you to all who participated in suggesting menu ideas for last night's dinner party. Larry and Lenore said everything was really tasty (or something like that). And, possibly for the first time ever, I didn't super stress in the preparation process before they got there. I think I've found the key...play Alan Jackson from start to finish on the ipod (I only have 2 albums on there). I was able to sing-hum-whistle while getting dinner ready and it kept my stress level way down. Thanks to Laura for telling me to prepare something chicken-y. Thanks to Karen for the chicken recipe. It was very good (I almost forgot to start cooking the rice though!). I decided to go ALL out and add the fresh parsley. Looks jazzy, don't you think? I didn't make the cream puffs because Cheryl had cream puffs at the bridal shower on Friday and I didn't want more cream puffs again the next night. But thank you Samuel for the idea. As for Danny's input, all he would tell me was that anything that was a favorite of his he overindulged in until it was no longer a favorite, hence, he had nothing favorite at this time. Against Samuel's advice, I made the Six-Veggie casserole and it was well received (Larry had seconds, and not a small portion). For dessert we had Apple Dumplings. They were the best part of the meal! Got rave reviews on that! That is, until they found out how much butter was in it! Then they felt fat. But dang, they were tasty. That's a recipe to save for our next cookbook (you know, the one that we're only putting in our actual favorite recipes, tried and true, rather than all my random recipes that I think would be good).
