stuff jackson says 02

"EMERGENCY, EMERGENCY: Danny hurt his butt!"

A while back, I was walking around our foreclosed neighbor's house with Jackson and Claire. We were looking to see if their driveway would be suitable to have a landscaper drive some sort of dirt-moving machine at a later date from the street into our backyard via our neighbor's driveway and backyard so that our backyard would be more useful instead of the wild raccoon habitable wilderness it currently is. I was holding Claire chariot-style since that's how she rolls, and Jackson was wandering around nearby as he is want to do. Summer had passed straight to late-Fall in a Monty Python sort of way so there were more than a few leaves on the ground. After spotting a wheelbarrow that might prove useful one day (but not spotting their trash can that would prove useful now), we started on our way back home.

It was at this point that the event happened which lead to the quotation by Jackson. We were walking down the leaf-covered stairs leading to our neighbor's driveway. Being that I was a Claire-chariot, I had no hands available to brace myself on the handrail. Leaves, as it turns out, are quite slippery and I transitioned from a standing Claire-chariot to a sitting Claire-chariot. Not knowing the extent of my injuries, I instructed Jackson to go run (safely) and get his mother.

Jackson sped (safely) off and tried to open the door leading from the rear deck to the master bedroom. It was locked so he proceeded down the stairs along the side of the house, to the lawn, down the concrete wall thing, up the drive way and to the garage where he found his mother.

"EMERGENCY, EMERGENCY: Danny hurt his butt!" shouted Jackson in as sincere a tone as a five year old can after watching his father fall on his butt. Erin thought he was joking, but as I hobbled after Jackson, and eased my elderly body onto and up the drive way she saw that he wasn't joking at all.

A few weeks later the coccyx is no longer bruised and all is well again. The moral of the story is to always transition from a two-handed Claire-chariot to a one-handed Claire-chariot while walking down leaf covered stairs outside your foreclosed upon neighbor's house.

Monster on Sunday

Mia came running up to me and hurled a pack of Smarties at my feet. She picked them up and when I told her to give them to me, she yelled, "NO!" and ran away. I said, "Give it to me and I will open it." She stopped, turned around and placed it ever so gently in my hand. She understands EVERYTHING!!!

And pictures of kids sleeping never get old.
