Happy Belated Birthday Laura

I wanted to post this yesterday. I didn't get it done. Now it's a day late. Sorry.
I was also going to post it on my other blog, but thought it would be better to just put it here instead.
Twenty-six years ago, I was pregnant with my third child. Back in those days, you didn't know what you were "getting" until the baby was born. I know, archaic.

Laura was born very late at night, about 11:20 or so. I remember the nurse at one point asking me if I wanted to have the baby on the 27th or the 28th. I said my sister had a baby on the 27th, so maybe that would be cool for the cousins to share a birthday.
Laura was a beautiful baby and toddler. She had beautiful blue eyes and the most wonderful hair. Wavy, almost curly. When she was about a year old, I went to a church softball practice. I forgot to put sunblock on her, and she got a little sunburned. I felt like such a negligent mother. She ended up getting freckles and has had them ever since.

Before Laura met Nick, we took her to Lake Powell with her roommate, Bonnie. I love this picture of her that was taken there. I can see how brilliant her spirit is in this picture.

This last picture was taken on her honeymoon. Not many people go on a honeymoon with their mother in-tow, but that's what happened. This shot was in Jamaica.

Happy Birthday Boo Bear. I love you.

The Great Debate of '08

Requesting witnesses to testify in the Great Debate of '08. If you have any recollection of my mother (and most likely yours too if you are to be a solid witness in this debate) using the phrase "Only boring people get bored," make sure to let your voice be heard.

Defendant (or plaintiff? I don't really know who's who here) claims to have never used said phraseology in her life (or at least mine).

Accuser (i.e. me) insists above quote is direct verbatim, repeated countless times during the years 1980-1998. (Possible usage may have occurred before or after these years, but definitely in addition to said years.)

What side of the debate are you on?

Kid Pix

Here's Karen at Disneyland listening to the wishing well echo.

Have you ever seen a cuter face than this? Love that Danny Boy.

Laura in her pretty Christmas dress. Does anyone know what happened to it?
Back at Disneyland. Eeyore and Samuel. Who has the sadder face?
Boo can blow bubbles!
This looks like a Chuck toy. Probably even a Chuck idea to stick them on Danny's face!
This is at the Costa Mesa apartment. The swings were right next to our apartment. Karen liked to swing. I wonder if Caleb ever will!
Nobody was more cool than this kid! You rock Samuel!
Your mom loves each of you! Big hugs to all of my precious kiddos.

Save that recipe

I just wanted to remind you all that if/when you come across a recipe that you are impressed with stick it in a pile to save (or put it in a special computer file) so that in a couple years we can compile them all for our next family cookbook (which means immediate, not extended family). I understand that the Eastside Chinoans are going paperless, so we'll accommodate them that way. Danny, you're included in this as well!

Loves You

Danny, Agnes has been very intersted in you lately. We read the children's Book of Mormon with her every night. Remember the thin big book with a picture for each verse? Well we just started over again at the beginning and are reading about Nephi. When Agnes saw the picture she said, "Just like Danny," as she pointed to Nephi. She did it again the next night too. Then just now we were watching Milo and Otis (the movie about the cat and dog) and the cat is running along the beach. Agnes says, "On beach, just like Danny." If we ask her where you are she will either say you are at the beach or she will say you are outside by the red car. Sometimes she will say you are with the cats or with Grandpa. Thought you should know a little girl over here is thinking of you.

Sara's first ice cream cone

We went through the drive-through last night to get ice cream cones for treats.  When I ordered the cones, I asked for one to only come up to the lip of  the cone.  When we pulled up to the window, they had four cones that looked exactly alike.  One of them was designated the "small" cone.  I asked if I could get a cup to go with it.  One of the Mensa members working for minimum wage looked at her co-worker and said, I told you! It's for the baby!  We got another cone with ice cream that came only slightly higher than the lip, but exceeded the diameter by at least half an inch.  Whatever.  Sara was SO excited to have the cone that she wouldn't eat it at first.  Eventually, she devoured it.  Those pics will come later.  Suffice it to say, Sara LOVED her first ice cream cone.

Yes, she's had ice cream before, but this was her first cone all to herself.

Birthday

Beyond being tired of seeing the same picture each day I check this blog, Samuel reminded me that we didn't post a Happy Birthday Nick post. So here it is. Happy Birthday to my husband.

Agnes helped decorate. She kept saying, "One more decoration." And when I said we had enough already she'd say, "Just a little one decoration."
