Stuff Nora Says

Nora never stops talking, I however, often stop listening. Tonight as we drove home from the Anderson's, she was yammering about becoming an "animal doctor." I told her she would probably have to go to 20th grade to become an animal doctor and that maybe she would change her mind by then. Holly started throwing alternative occupations out as possibilities: firefighter, teacher, stuff like that. "NO," Nora shouted, "I WANT TO BE AN ANIMAL DOCTOR!!!" At that point, I asked if maybe she would want to be a mommy.  "I can't be a mommy. Chloe wants to be a mommy. I want to be an animal doctor." Stated matter-of-factly as though only one person ever could be a mommy.  It was almost a "duh!" tone of voice.

Then she said she was going to be a pet animal doctor (the specialization changes regularly). I asked if she would take care of dogs and cats, maybe snakes... "Snakes are too scary."  Then Holly asked, "What about fish?"   "Fish die."  End of discussion.  No saving sick fish, they just die.  So sad for them.

Agnes' Turn

This is what we got this week from ours:
"I want milk. Water sucks."

Stuff Sara Says 7

Overheard in the last week or so:

"Daddy, read to me!" (Insert any other name in the "Daddy" position.  She's not at all particular about who reads to her.)
"Yeah, I'm strange"
"No, Nora's crazy"
and today's winner: "No, Daddy. No Nursery; I want to go home!"

Poor little Mouse is  traumatized by the dropping her off at nursery experience, but seems to like it once she's in there.  Today we found out that the Nursery leader that she likes and will go to with the least amount of crying is going to be moving. CURSES!!!

I'm off to meet with a member of the Stake Presidency.  We'll let you know how that goes...

Just So You Know

Today I was reading a journal my father wrote (sporadically from 1972 to 1996) today. Danny already received the ripple effect of this, but I wanted to tell the rest of you too...
My father was going to have surgery for the removal of a tumor when I was 15. Before the surgery, he wrote a small paragraph to each of his children and to my mom.
I wish I had known what he wrote long ago. Would it have altered my behavior or decisions as a teenager? Maybe, but maybe not. I'm going to tell you what he wrote.
"Patti, Baby, you are a great and wonderful daughter. We, your parents, are proud of you. I somehow have the feeling as I lay here in this hospital bed that the work you are doing is to prepare you for a foreign mission. You will know the work the Lord has for you to do. You also shall marry one of the Lord's chosen and be blessed without measure throughout your life. Even now, the Lord is preparing your husband who will take you to the Eternal Kingdom wit hyour children and your family if you continue to make the right choices. Hold fast to the Iron Rod and always remember the teachings of your youth. I feel that the Lord is preparing you to do much good in this world of trouble and strife and His blessings he will place upon your head in great abundance, even the Eternal Kingdom. Live worthy, my love."
Unfortunately, I did not make right choices then, but I am thankful and blessed to have been given the opportunity to be the mother of four remarkable and wonderful children who are so kind and loving to me. I wanted to tell you that I love each of you and your families also. I have been blessed to have you for my children, my in-law children and my grandchildren. Just so you know...

While Dad is Away...

we went to the beach. We played and built a super ginormous sand castle with lots of feathers.

we ate pizza in the LIVING ROOM!

we spent a lot of time in our jammies.

* we went to Rhiannon's blessing. They spoke Spanish.

* we did running cannonballs into the pool (no pictures... I don't want severely unsafe behavior documented)

* we slept all night long in our own beds. except once. I slept on Daddy's floor.

* Mommy doesn't know the right words to Brown Bear, Brown Bear

* I missed Daddy

And finally (from MOM)...

* Nora put diapers on all her dolls (and put wipes in them so they are unusable) and Sara had huge blow outs so by the time we woke up Monday AM we had TWO diapers in the house (Saturday night we had 15). I should go to the store, but we are going swimming with friends. And then Sara has to take a nap. And then I am picking Sam up at the airport. I am hoping to get to Costco soon. :)

A thought about "Stuff Sara Says "

Just as a point of reference regarding Sara's vocabulary: at work today (the private company, not the school) I was talking with another SLP about one of her clients. He will be three in December, so he's just under a year older than Sara. We decided that he was using language at an age-appropriate level. you know, what is expected of a kid who is a little more than two-and-a-half. Then I realized that Sara's sentences and vocabulary are more complex than his. #2 is pretty freaking smart! Lest she read this and feel slighted, #1 is pretty freaking smart too!

Sorry, no picture. Maybe I'll update it some other time and post a picture. Just scroll down a little. She still looks like that.
